Driving Instructor Training - Controls Lesson

One of the most under rated things that people who are training to become a driving instructor concentrate on is the controls lesson. Most peoples response is I know how the chair and the doors work so I don't need to practice it I already know it! (Big, big, big mistake)
What you have to consider is 4 points for each thing you mention.
1 - What it is
2 - What it does
3 - How it works
4 - My commands will be

So for instance the accelerator

1 The accelerator
2 Controls the speed of the vehicle
3 Controls the flow of fuel to the engine, just like a tap, the more you turn a tap on, the more water flows out, the more you press the pedal the more the fuel flows to the engine and therefore the faster you go. When you release the pedal the flow of fuel is reduced and therefore the car begins to slow down
.
4 For the purpose of driving instruction we call it the gas pedal, just because it is easier and quicker for me to say "off the gas" rather than say "can you please take your foot off the accelerator, because by the time I've said can you please take your foot off the accelerator and you've said what, we've already gone past whatever I wanted you to slow down for!"
Therefore my commands will be
" On the gas" meaning we gently apply pressure to the pedal so we progressively speed up,
"Off the Gas" meaning.......
"Fraction on the gas" meaning .......
"Fraction off the gas" meaning.......

If you don't use these 4 steps to all of the items in the controls lesson is when you leave room for failure!

Can you go through all of the controls lesson and use the 4 steps listed above for all of them?
